Astonishing surfing beaches coupled with tropical forest, Matapalo is a true paradise! This is a great activity for families with smaller kids, with short distance hiking and lots of wildlife to meet.

This is a remote beach located 18 km outside of Puerto Jimenez, halfway to Corcovado National Park’s main entrance. Here you have the possibility to observe all 4 species of monkeys, sloths, coatis, and a great variety of birds.
You can hike up to a waterfall in less than 15 minutes. This is an excellent choice for kids and adults that don't want to hike long distances. It's all flat and extremely beautiful.
Things to bring: 2-3 liters of water per person, sunscreen, hiking shoes (protected, comfortable and preferably waterproof), light and quick dry clothes, hat or cap, swimsuit, snacks for the walk (sandwiches, mixed nuts, dry fruits, durable vegetables, cookies, energy or cereal bars, etc.), camera, binoculars (optional), sunglasses (optional), and a handkerchief (optional).

5:45 a.m. Meet your guide in Puerto Jimenez.*
6:00 a.m. Depart towards Matapalo.
6:30 a.m. Start hiking.
8:30 a.m. Visit the waterfall.
11:30 a.m. Come back to the entrance of Matapalo.
12:00 p.m. End of tour.
* If already in Matapalo, the guide can meet you there. You may also choose to stay in Matapalo after the tour. For both of these options there is a small extra charge for the guide's transportation.
